Simplifying PHR Connectivity with Health Information Systems
In today’s healthcare systems, patient health information is scattered across different providers, facilities, and repositories making it more challenging for a patient and their healthcare team to have access to a comprehensive and up-to-date health record. As a result, there is a growing trend to empower patients and their families to play a more active role in their healthcare by providing ways for them to access and manage their own health information in a centralized personal health record (PHR), enabling collaboration between care providers, patients, families, and devices, accessible anywhere and at any time.
To help patients access and control their health information, Microsoft developed HealthVault, a centralized, patient‐controlled PHR system that consolidates health record information obtained from many integrated sources into one portal. With privacy and security in mind, the universal data-sharing platform, allows patients to share their PHRs with anyone they choose and to upload tracking information directly from compatible devices into their personal HealthVault account.
